Award winning photographer, author and teacher Kim Westerskov specializes in making breathtaking images of the seas and ocean wildernesses of the Southern Hemisphere. Shooting in his distinct style, the oceans and its inhabitants, from the Antarctic wilderness to the Tropical seas, Kims specialist knowledge of the marine and polar environments is informed by his PhD in Marine Biology.
He has had a longstanding love affair with, and commitment to, these wild, wet and lonely places. In the course of his career he has been “cuddled” by a friendly humpback whale, got sucked into a diving sperm whale’s downdraft, dived under the Antarctic ice and photographed at minus 50˚C in Antarctica. Kim lives in Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty with his wife Vivienne, daughter Anne and son Gareth, where he continues to with a very busy schedule of judging photo competitions, lecturing, writing books and providing education through photographic workshops, personal tuition and photo critiques.
